Emulating a Professional Photographer: Lee Friedlander

Lee Friedlander is an American photographer, known for his distinct approach to capturing urban life. He incorporates shadows, reflections and layering to create complex compositions. I has the opportunity to use shadows to detail my walk to class in my first image. I used Friedlander's perspective with reflection and depth to create the second image where I took a mirror picture next to my Christmas tree. My third picture, I emulated Lee Friedlander's "America by Car" project, as I detailed a rainy night from my car.
Course Goals and Achievements
Over the course of ART180, I made significant progress toward achieving the goals I set for myself at the beginning og the class. My first goal was to learn various iPhone photography techniques, and I spent time exploring features such as filters and adjusting exposure. These tools allowed me to experiment with depth and add new dimensions to my photographs. My second goal was to pose objects and people more effectively. This involved experimenting with framing and positioning to create more dynamic compositions that are visually appealing. Lastly, I focused on improving my ability to capture ideal lighting for nature pictures. I gained a better understanding once I practiced taking photographs during different times of day and especially "golden hour", which is right before sunset. Overall, this course helped me grow as a photographer and gave me practical tools to refine the process.
