Critiquing Photo Challenge

Writer's picture: chloeilcchloeilc

Part 1: My most successful image is this photo of the Newark Reservoir for the aesthetically evaluative category. It has three clear dimensions: the grass, the water, and the tree line. The picture also came out very clear, making the viewer feel like they were also at the reservoir. Overall, the most challenging aspect of this assignment was understanding what "Explanatory Photography" and "Interpretative Photography" are and being able to apply them to my pictures. I take numerous pictures daily, but differentiating what the viewer can get from the image is difficult. In the future, to create stronger images, I will more deeply understand what a potential subject is trying to say before photographing.

Part 2: Comment on classmates blog

Hi Gabrielle,

I love how you captured the beauty of the changing seasons in your image. The vibrant contrasting colors of the orange/red leaves against the dark green of the surrounding trees draw me in. Also, the nice sunset in the background allows me to practically feel the crisp fall air and makes me wish I was walking down that sidewalk too! You perfectly demonstrated an aesthetic environment through your photograph.
