Jim Goldberg’s work has inspired me to focus on storytelling in my own photography. I’ve learned to look beyond just the surface of an image to uncover the deeper emotions, context, and stories. His use of text alongside his photos adds another layer of meaning, and I’d love to incorporate that into my future work. The combination of visual and written elements can really enhance the narrative and make the viewer engage more deeply with the image. Goldberg’s approach motivates me to think more creatively and thoughtfully in my photography.

Your presentation on Mary Ellen Mark was excellent! I appreciated how you discussed her focus on often-overlooked subjects and how her use of black-and-white photography and lighting sets the emotional tone of her work. You also did a great job explaining the balance between her interpretive and visually striking images. Learning about her has made me see photography as a powerful tool for social commentary, and it’s inspired me to think more about the deeper stories and emotions I want to capture in my own work.
